In contrast to the larger external bypass shocks as often seen on trophy trucks and buggies for racing, internal bypass shocks are more compact –– making them perfect for UTV applications.
A groundbreaking technology first unveiled on the Polaris RZR XP1000 FOX Edition in 2015, nowadays you’ll find internal bypass shocks on most top-of-the-line sport UTVs from Polaris and Can-Am.
2015 Polaris RZR XP1000 FOX Edition was the first UTV with Internal Bypass Shocks
Using FOX’s internal bypass (IBP) shocks as an example, its construction consists of one tube inside of the other, wherein the space between them allows the oil to bypass the piston via the various ports and valves before re-entering the system through the bottom. The technology allows for improved tunability, performance, and handling over a wider range of terrain as well as at varying speeds.
While internal bypass shocks are certainly an upgrade in and of themselves when compared to other styles of UTV shocks, they do also leave room for improvement.
Whether it be proprietary modifications to the internal valving ( Ride Improvement System) or the addition of a Dual-Rate Spring Kit, at Shock Therapy we specialize in bringing our customers the best in off-road suspension. These improvements help promote plushness through small chop and chatter, increase bottom out resistance at full compression, and remove stiff ride quality at moderate-to-low speeds.
Currently, the UTVs that come with internal bypass shocks from the factory include the Can-Am Maverick X3, as well as various models of Polaris RZR - Pro XP, Pro R, Turbo R.
